Welcome back to another exciting season!
The school district hired me to help produce this year’s convocation video alongside Oscar Palomo and his staff at AISD Channel 22. It was a great opportunity to bring on a few members of the team to help out and gain some experience outside of the classroom. Big thanks to Ben Root, Khunal Parkash, Jonathan Cardiel and Mielle Peña for helping us make it happen!
This summer, 18 talented young storytellers from 11 states will convene in the nation’s capital with a common objective: to help build the future of public media.
The middle and high school fellows are participants in the first Student Reporting LabsAcademy in Washington, D.C. They’ll work alongside public media mentors to produce original digital content and sharpen their journalism and production skills. They will also help program leaders develop strategies to engage young people with the news and current affairs and ensure that diverse youth voices are active in the conversations about critical issues facing the nation.
“The Archer Hadley Story” won Best Documentary, Best Production, and won $1,000 for winning “Best of Fest” at this years Austin Youth Film Festival. Ben shared the money with his crew and also gave back to the program. Way to go Ben!
When high school athletes select the college team for which they will play, the students often hold press conferences and sign letters of intent to announce their decisions on May 1’st. This day is also known as “signing day”
This year, AISD, The E3 alliance, and GenTX decided to host a pep rally type of event that honored kids, (that weren’t athletes) committing to college. The Central Texas College Signing Day event was held at Huston-Tillotson and our very own Keirra Ewah and Jacob Duran covered it for KAHS News. Austin High School Students attended the event and we were able to catch up with them for an interview.
